ASN. A shocking incident happened to a 22 days old infant baby who was branded with burning iron rod in Simuri village of chikhaldara tehsil Amravati district. The baby had as many as 65 burn marks on the stomach when it was brought to the hospital. Initially the baby was taken to the Primary Health Centre at Hatur by the father and then the baby was taken to Achalpur Sub District Hospital, from there the baby was referred to District Women’s Hospital in Amravati. Initially as per the details from parents the baby was born on 3rd February at Achalpur Sub District Hospital and later on 5th February the baby was taken home after discharge.
Later the baby had difficulty in breathing, so the parents had given some household remedy as per the Adhivasi system to solve the baby’s illness, whereas the ailment increased and the parents took the 22 days old baby to the PHC in Hatur, and the medical team was shocked to see its condition where the infant baby had been branded on the stomach with hot iron rod alledgly as a home remedy as an Adhiwasi practice. Later the baby was shifted to the Neonatal ICU at Women’s Hospital at Amravati. There the baby had difficluty in breathing and the condition of the baby was very serious. There the Doctor was suspecting that the baby was sufering from Heart ailment and as certain facilities were not available in the hospital the baby had to be tranfered to an higher center for further treatment and surgery. With the swift action of the Gramin SP Mr. Vishal Anand and the Gaurdian Minister of Amaravati district Shri Chandrashekar Bawankule, a Green Corridor was created and the child was shifted to Nelson Hospital in Nagpur on 27th February ‘2025 mid night at 1.10am and admitted at Neonatal ICU under. At the time of admission the baby’s condition was very critical and it was an big challenge for the medical team to settle the baby. An Echo was performed at Nelson Hospital which confirmed the diagnosis of TGA – one of the most complex congenital Heart disease. Unless operated these babies do not survive beyond few months and the surgery is very complicated (1 in 5000/ live births). It requires a team approach to manage such babies. It took almost 10 days to bring the baby to a stable condition to perform the Cardiac surgery. Later once the baby was fit to operate the Cardiac surgery was performed successfully by Dr. Sachin Kuthe and his team along with Dr. Vinay Kulkarni, Dr. Satish Deopujari, Dr. Nilesh Darvheker, Dr. Suchitha Khadse, Dr. Yash Banait, Dr. Anupam Bahe, Dr. Nikita Lalwani, Dr. Piyush Malokar, team of Nelson Hospital. Then baby was shifted to the NICU and it took more than 10 days for the baby to come to a normal condition and was shifted to the private room. Now the baby has recovered fully and we are planning for a discharge. The team of Nelson Doctors, Nursing team and the staffs were working tirelessly day and night with full dedication to save this infant child. Shri. Chandrashekar bawankule ji were closely monitoring the baby’s condition. The mangement of Nelson Hospital Mrs. Radha Sahu Director, Mr. Ganesh kharode Finance Director, Dr. Sonalkumar Bhagat Center Head, Dr. S. P. Rajan gave great logistic support to the Medical team to achieve this success in saving the 22 days baby.
